Custom Profile Portrait Spoon — Your Silhouette, Hand-Carved in Reclaimed Wood

Rex has been carving wood for more than 40 years. He reads the grain, works with the wood, and finds the form hiding inside it. Give him a clear profile photograph and he will carve that face into the handle of a hand-crafted wooden spoon — 8 to 10 inches of reclaimed hardwood, shaped by hand, finished to feel as good as it looks.

The bowl is hand-hollowed and smooth. The handle rises into a profile — forehead, nose, lips, chin — carved with the patience and eye of someone who has spent a lifetime working in wood. No two are the same. The wood is not the same. The face is not the same. That is the point.

Your photo must:
Show the subject in true profile — facing directly left or right, not at an angle
Be well-lit, with the edge of the face clearly visible - please see image in gallery. No shadows, strong profile.
Be in sharp focus — blurry photos cannot be carved accurately
Be submitted as a JPG or PNG file, max. 1MB in size

Rex will review your photo within 2–3 business days and contact you if there is an issue before carving begins. Once carving begins, the order cannot be cancelled or refunded, we won't begin carving for 3 days. Please allow 3–5 weeks for completion. A photo of your finished spoon will be sent before we ship it.

Can I submit a photo of someone who has passed away?
Yes. Memorial portrait spoons are among the most meaningful pieces Rex makes. Any clear profile photograph — whether recent or decades old — can be used as long as the profile edge is visible. 
What if my photo is slightly angled?
Rex will do his best to work with what you send, but a true profile gives the sharpest result. If the photo cannot be used as-is, we will contact you before carving begins.
Can I choose the wood?
We will do our best to accommodate preferences. Current available wood species are noted at time of order. Reclaimed and sustainable woods are used whenever possible.
Is the spoon functional?
Yes. The bowl is hand-hollowed and food-safe finished. The spoon can be used or displayed.
Can I order more than one?
Yes. Each spoon is a separate order. Discounts may be available for multiple pieces — contact us to discuss.
